House Judiciary Committee Holds Hearing On Football Head Injuries

The CBA was fine in 2006 and was scheduled to extent all the way to 2012. Then the NFL revoked that extension so now we are stuck in a lockout. Over the past eight years the revenue split has been 50-50. Why change it now when things are fair?
Even worse, with no season the players will have no money while the owners will still take in $4.5 billion. Doesn’t sound fair at all. This has nothing to do with the owner’s taking risk. They have even rejected clauses that offer them financial protection and fallbacks. Players have even agreed to take that risk, yet it was rejected. Some owners have even called out that online NFL streams are dangerous to their income. When people watch nfl online they fear that it is bad for business.
Finally, the players are being reasonable. Many people complain that the rookies have too high a pay, but the players agr

eed to a new performance plan for rookies. The players are in the right.

“The NFL’s request for a stay of the lockout that was granted today means no football. The players are in mediation and are working to try to save the 2011 season. The court will hear the full appeal on June 3.”
NFL statement on stay granted by Eighth Circuit:
“It is now time to devote all of our energy to reaching a comprehensive agreement that will improve the game for the benefit of current and retired players, teams, and, most importantly, the fans. This litigation has taken the parties away from the negotiating table where these issues should be resolved. We remain confident that the appellate court will determine that this is a labor dispute that should be governed by federal labor law. But the league and players, without further delay, should control their own destiny and decide the future of the NFL together through negotiation.”

The NFL already generates great revenue when people watch NFL online through viewers seeing advertisements on TV stations. Popular tools are used to watch games such as SopCast, TVUPlayer and more. When people watch football they are part of a worldwide economy.

Well the lockout is about a few things. For one, it is about the owners trying to take away football from their giant fan base. This can have a devastating effect on local economies such as Cincinnati, Denver and other “football” cities. There would be a loss of over $150 million per city. Not to mention 110,000 jobs lost.

Not only is the lockout about our economies and towns but it is about the owner’s wanting leverage. The cost to own an NFL team will drastically decrease if there is no season obviously, because who wants to own a team that never plays? Right now, the owners have a TV agreement that generates income even if no season is played in 2011. They could make almost 4.5 billion dollars. This would be a very profitable “season” for the owners without games because player salaries would not be paid. They are willing to destroy the NFL for self benefit.

For no good, solid reasons the owners are attempting to require players to do more. They want to reduce there share of revenue to the players by 18 percent next year. Not to mention the NFL wants to increase the number of games, and decrease player salaries. Even worse, the NFL will not continue its player healthcare during the lockout. The owners have a stronghold on media across the globe, and share great revenue yet will not cave in on these agreements for ultimately selfish reasons.

The league is what it is today because the players have fought for their rights as players in the past. The current revenue share the owners want to give to the players are practically unheard of (only in the 1980′s).
